- From what we can tell, HP (now owns Samsung Printers) has not released a firmware or driver update for your Samsung ML2160 to work with macOS Catalina. It’s likely that the current drivers you have for this printer are 32-bit while macOS Catalina now requires 64-bit and does not work with 32-bit architecture.

As I've done before on other subjects, I've found a workaround. It's a bit clunky, but it does let me print directly from my iMac to the Samsung. I ran across this idea somewhere along the many paths I trod electronically in search of a fix, and I'd like to credit the person who shared it, but I've forgotten where I found it.

What I did was go to System Preferences>Printers & Scanners and clicked the Control key while the cursor was in the lefthand printer window. I selected 'Reset printing system.' This cleared the window of installed printers. Then I added my Brother printer and set it as an AirPrint printer, then I added the Samsung and set it as an AirPrint printer. Then I added the Samsung again and set it as a 'Generic PCL Printer.' This second Samsung printer has the number '2' added after its macOS name. Then I was done.
If I want to print to either the Brother or the Samsung from other Macs or iPhones or iPads via AirPrint, I just select the AirPrint printer I want, and the document is printed. If I'm using my main 27' iMac and want to print (via my LAN's wifi), I am careful to select Samsung M283x Series ... 2. I don't begin to understand how or why this workaround works, but it does. I suspect it will work with other printers that are AirPrint enabled but don't have 64-bit drivers available.
